Driving tour castles and fortified town

Visit the historical gardens of Muiderslot Castle, the fort museum in Naarden and the Groeneveld Castle in Baarn.

Getting out from the busy city of Amsterdam for a day trip is a real treat. This offer includes visiting stunning castles, gardens and historical spots of the Netherlands that will definitely light up your day.

Departing from Amsterdam at 9.30 the day starts in Muiden where the stunning, historical gardens of Muiderslot Castle are being visited. The guide gives you an insight into the history of the gardens and tells you more about the plants and vegetables being grown there. The view of Muiderslot Castle - the best kep medieval castle in the Netherlands - will leave you breathless! The following destination is Naarden, the beautiful town that is famous for resembling a snowflake from high above. Here you will learn about the town that once was a military defense spot to protect the rich province of Holland and Amsterdam from the enemy. At the Fortress Museum a tour will be given that will bring you back in time. After lunch in the special Arsenaal Restaurant, the trip will be continued in Baarn to see the Groeneveld Castle that used to be occupied by wealthy people who lived in Amsterdam (Amsterdammers) to enjoy some fresh air away from the city. Inside the building the original paintings and stucco serve as reminders of the Rococo style period. A guided tour will be given at this location. The arrival back to Amsterdam is around 17.10.

Accessibility information

  • The gardens of Muiderslot Castle are accessible. The castle does unfortunately not comply with the accessibility requirements.
  • The Fort museum of Naarden is accessible and an adapted toilet is available. The Arsenaal Restaurant is also accessible for wheelchair-users with adapted toilet
  • The Groeneveld Castle, its Grand Café and the main paths of the park are accessible for wheelchair-users. Wheelchairs can be borrowed free of charge.

The lunch at Arsenaal Restaurant in the Fort in Naarden is for your own account, however a reservation will be made to announce your arrival.
