Stay in Medemblik - Delta Lloyd Regatta 2018

Medemblik has always been the center of regatta sailing in the Netherlands. It is the home port and main venue to many international events such as multiple European or World Championships in various classes, but also to events for yachts such as the 24 Hour Regatta. The International Sailing Center Medemblik is hosting the Delta Lloyd Regatta every year in May.

Medemblik is the smallest, prettiest and oldest city of West-Friesland along the former Zuiderzee (IJsselmeer), approximately 40 kilometres north of Amsterdam. Due to its rich history, Medemblik is an interesting place to visit. The picturesque centre reminds you of the old days. In addition there are many tourist attractions, such as harbours, castle Radboud, a typical Dutch flourmill “de Herder” and many museums and establishments.

Where will I stay?

Arado Camping&Lodge is located in a peaceful, green area just outside the city of Medemblik. It consists of a group accommodation for groups up to 14 people with adapted bathroom available. The sleeping area is divided into two spacious rooms with 8-8 beds and there is a shared living- and dining room with television and kitchen supplies. There are also 8 comfortable lodges that can host up to 28 visitors. These are threshold free and the doors are wide enough for wheelchairs. The bathrooms are equipped with grab rails at the toilets and wheel-in shower. Each lodge has their own kitchen with necessary kitchen supplies.

Mobility equipment rental

During the stay, the following equipment can be rented and delivered to Medemblik: wheelchair, mobility scooter, shower chair, hoist, high-low bed, walker and special needs bikes.

How to get there?

Airport transfer

The airport transfer provides transportation between Schipol airport and Arado Camping&Lodge in Medemblik. The client can choose from three transfer categories that fits their needs.

  1. Regular taxi van with platform lift

The regular taxi van can position 4 people using a wheelchair. This van also has a platform lift on the backside.

  1. Taxi car with wheelchair ramp

Transfers for a maximum of 3 people of which 1 wheelchair users, including wheelchair ramp.

  1. Couch/touring car/bus

Accessible transport for big groups with over 10 wheelchair users. These touring cars have a platform lift and can remove chairs to place wheelchairs.

What activities can I do?

Pre-stay in Amsterdam

Your stay can be extended with a 2-nights pre-stay in the city of Amsterdam. This would include 2 overnights in 3- or 4-star hotel with breakfast additional activities.

Recommended activities during the stay in Amsterdam:

  • 3- hour Amsterdam Old City Center Tour

A guided tour in Amsterdam with local tour guide, this tour is wheelchair accessible.

  • Amsterdam guided bike tour

A 2-hour bike tour with local tour guide and special mobility (or regular) bikes in Amsterdam.

  • Canal Cruise Amsterdam (wheelchair accessible)

The canal cruise passes by the Anne Frank House, the Wester Church, the Rembrandt House, the Maritime Museum and the renovated Rijksmuseum. The following canal cruise tours can be booked: canal cruise by day light or canal cruise by night

Recommended tours during your stay in Medemblik

  • Medemblik-Hoorn heritage railway

The Medemblik-Hoorn heritage railway operated by the Museumstoomtram Hoorn Medemblik is a heritage railway in the Netherlands. It runs from Hoorn to Medemblik, the distance is about 20 km. There is a wheel chairlift available on board.

  • Private Accessible Driving Tour (6 or 8 hours)

Excursion in Noord-Holland: the windmills and harbour towns

  • Wheelchair accessible transfer to Zaanse Schans

Excursion with an accessible taxi van to see the famous windmills, enjoy a clog workshop and cheese farm at Zaanse Schans village.

  • Excursion to Alkmaar

Excursion to Alkmaar, a historical city in North-Holland with many canals, waterways and old buildings. Also known as “the city of cheese”. Accessible museums: Cheese Museum, National Beer Museum and City Museum Alkmaar.

  • Excursion to Enkhuizen

Enkhuizen is located only 20 minutes drive away from Medemblik. The Zuiderzee museum that introduces the everyday life around the Zuiderzee in the past can be visited.
